Life Beyond the Office

You’ll usually find me on the water, on a mountain, or somewhere out on the road. These are the things that keep me grounded and remind me why I love this country.

Sailing

On the Water

I started my career as a deck officer in the merchant marine, so the water has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. In 2018, I traded tankers for sailboats, and these days you’ll find me out on Lake Ontario whenever the wind cooperates. It’s my favourite place to be.

“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” (English proverb)

Skiing

On the Mountain

I learned to ski during my first winter in Canada, back in 2014, and I’ve been hooked ever since. Every winter, I head for the slopes, whether in Quebec or out west in the Rockies and Whistler. Skiing is how I fell in love with Canadian winters, and with Canada itself.

Road Trip

Coast to Coast in a Van I Built

In 2021, I bought a Chevy Express cargo van with one plan: to convert it into a camper myself. From July to October, I drove it from Ontario east to Newfoundland and Labrador, then all the way west to British Columbia: four months on the road, coast to coast. Somewhere between the Atlantic and the Pacific, Canada stopped being the country I moved to and became the country I call home.
